Relatives say she was undocumented

Relatives of a 24-year-old Filipina who died last
week in Jordan have sought the help of the
Philippine Overseas Employment Administration
after it emerged that she was an undocumented
worker.

Elena Mojeres, a private school teacher, said her
niece, Honey Lyn Limbaga, a mother of two, died in
a hospital im Amman, where she was rushed by
her employer.

Relatives of the Cotabato native are worried that
she had no known records at the POEA extension
office in Cotabato city.

"We went to the POEA office and found out that she
has no records at all. We have no idea right now
regarding the agency where she applied," Mojeres
said.

Limbaga left the country in April last year to work as
a domestic helper in Jordan.

Her mother, who works as a domestic helper in
Saudi Arabia, said that she only learned of her
daughter's death through a friend who called her on
Sunday.

The last time she talked to her daughter was about
a week ago, she said.

"She died of severe asthma. Before she died, she
phoned and informed me that she was suffering
from an asthma attack," the mother said.

"We appeal to the government to help us get her
body," she added.

A November 2006 report from local health officials
and human rights group cited that 10 domestic
helpers committed suicide in Jordan during the
period due to psychological breakdown.
