Workers may present papers directly at check-in counters
MANILA
Overseas workers are no longer required to get their documents verified at
labor assistance counters, significantly cutting pre-departure processing time.
They are now allowed to present exit clearances or overseas employment
certificates directly at airline check-in counters.
However, they will have to show their papers at the terminal fee counter and at
immigration check-in.
The new procedures, which took effect on March 24, are part of enhancements
introduced by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration to help
speed up pre-daparture formalities.
POEA administrator Rosalinda Baldoz said labor assistance counters will
remain open round the clock but services will be limited to assisting OFWs
with documentation problems, issuing overseas employment certificates to
OFWs leaving the country within 24 hours, and dissemination of information
and education materials to OFWs and families.
The new procedure coincides with the start of the peak season when
thousands of OFWs are expected to return to their jobs after attending the
graduation of family members, and observing Holy Week in the country.
The POEA has labor assistance counters at NAIA 1, NAIA 2, Mactan
International Airport, Davao International Airport, and Diosdado Macapagal
International Airport.
