Champion will fight Marquez only in a heavier class
RAUL ACEDRE MANILA
Climb up the weight ladder and get me.
That's what Manny Pacquiao wants Juan Manuel Marquez to do to get a shot
again at the Filipino champion.
And while he's at it, Pacquiao says Marquez has to wait his turn while he guns
for the WBC lightweight crown of David Diaz.

Golden Boy
Promotions
chief Richard
Schaefer
offered
Pacquiao
US$6 million
to stage the
return bout in
June
This means that Marquez, the dethroned WBC
superfeatherweight champion, would have to
bulk up to 135 lbs in order to fight Pacquiao.
Pacquiao's camp said he is having trouble
keeping to 130 lbs and would prefer to move
to a heavier class.
He had earlier targeted super lightweight
Ricky Hatton next and a fight with him
remains on the horizon.
Pacquiao won a 12-round split decision over
Marquez in Las Vegas on Sunday in a
controversial victory that prompted calls from
the Mexican camp for a rematch.
Insisting that Marquez won the bout, his
handlers are spoiling for quick rematch.
Golden Boy Promotions chief Richard
Schaefer offered Pacquiao US$6 million to
stage the fight in June.
Trainer Freddie Roach said Pacquiao would start as soon as a cut over his
right eye healed.
"We may have to wait a little longer for the cut to heal completely,” said Roach.
A June 28 fight, originally planned for as Pacquiao, will be pushed back.
Somewhat disappointed by Pacquiao’s performance against Marquez, whom
the Filipino fought to a controversial draw in 2004, Roach wants his ward to
train a full two months before a fight.
Pacquiao is keen to face all-comers. "Kahit sino, laban ako (I’ll fight
anybody),” said Pacquiao on Monday after returning to Roach’s Wild Card
Gym.
