Convict faces the death penalty for robbery and murder
MANILA
The Philippines has launched an appeal to save a Filipino woman from being
executed after she was convicted for murder and robbery.
The Taiwanese High Court has will start an appeal hearing October ij the case
of Nemencia Armia.
Armia was convicted by the Taiwan District Court on September 30 for robbing
and killing a Taiwanese national. Armia was sentenced her to death.

Basilio said Manila has been coordinating
with lawyers in the appeal process.
Basilio expressed regret over the court
ruling. He said representatives from the
Philippine cultural mission in Taiwan has
been making regular visits to Armia in jail.
“We have been regularly visiting her to check
that she is all right and to let her know that
we are doing all we can for her," he said.
Basilio said Manila has been coordinating

"Meanwhile, we have expedited Taiwanese visas for Nemencia Armia’s
relatives so we can fly them to Taiwan and they can visit with her,” Basilio
said.
