Senate approves bill, Lower House sets deliberations
MANILA
Public school teachers will receive a P9,000 salary increase under a proposal
being rushed through Congress.
This would bring their basic monthly salary to P19,000. The increase will be
introduced in phases over the next two years.

Sunday said the Department of Education
(DepEd), along with various teacher organizations, will sign this week a
manifesto calling for the expeditious passing of House Bill 4734.
"I suggested that for teachers' day, which is October 5, but will be celebrated
(today), that a manifest be made to be given to the House for the
across-the-board allowance increase of P9,000 stating that we support the
bill," he added.
The bill has been passed by the Senate but the Lower House is yet to
deliberate on it.

"Education must be restored to its noble pedestal as a preferred career. The
cream of the crop should become the teachers of our youth," Lapus said
" This can only happen if teachers are given the pay and respect they deserve,
equal to present top paid career personnel."
Sunga said they expect the salary increase to be passed by the House of
Representatives before the end of the year.
